Packaging Materials for Packing, Protection & Dispatch
A suitable packing method combines the right outer container with protection for the contents. Explore the options below to match boxes, wrapping and filling materials to your products, packing routine and order volumes.
Single Wall, Double Wall & Removal Boxes
The contents determine the carton you need. Consider their weight, shape and fragility, together with any stacking or handling during storage and transport.
- Single wall cardboard boxes have one corrugated layer and can suit lighter products when the box specification matches the load.
- Double wall cardboard boxes use two corrugated layers. Compare these for more demanding packing requirements, checking the individual board specification and any stated capacity.
- Removal and shipping boxes include Bankers Box moving cartons for organising items during office relocations and transfers between premises.
Check how the base and lid close, whether tape is needed and how many boxes are included in the pack. Allow room for the protective material around the goods, rather than choosing on product dimensions alone.
Mailing Boxes & Postal Tubes for Business Deliveries
Mailing boxes provide outer packaging for smaller orders, samples and other items sent as parcels. Compare usable internal space, board construction and the closure method with the product you are posting.
For posters, plans and printed materials that can be rolled, browse postal tubes. Check the tube's internal diameter, usable length and end closures; the rolled item needs to fit without being forced into place.
Choose the postal service using the finished package's external measurements and total weight. Where a box is described as suitable for a particular postal format, confirm the packed result against the carrier's current requirements.
Bubble Wrap Rolls, Sheets & Bubble Bags
Bubble wrap provides an air-filled layer around goods. The most convenient format depends on whether your team packs a variety of items or repeats the same job throughout the day.
- Rolls: cut lengths to suit different products; compare roll width, length and bubble size.
- Sheets: use a ready-sized piece where the dimensions suit a regular packing task.
- Bubble bags: place smaller items inside a protective sleeve, checking the usable opening and space needed for the item's thickness.
The range includes Jiffy, GoSecure, 5 Star and Sealed Air bubble packaging. Assess the complete pack, including support around corners and any space left inside the outer box.
Kraft Paper, Corrugated Paper & Wrapping Tissue
Paper packaging comes in different forms for wrapping, separation and presentation. Choose the construction and grade for the task, as two brown paper products can perform differently.
- Kraft and packing paper includes rolls for wrapping goods and paper that can be formed into suitable gap filling material.
- Corrugated paper has a fluted structure that provides a layer between items or around products.
- Wrapping tissue paper provides a light inner wrap for presentation and separation. Fragile goods may also need more substantial cushioning.
Compare sheet size or roll dimensions and the stated paper weight where provided. For a packing bench, also check whether the roll suits your existing holder or dispensing arrangement.
Void Fill, Honeycomb Paper & Edge Protection
Void fill occupies empty space inside a carton to limit movement. Protective wrapping sits around the item itself. These functions can overlap, but filling a large gap does not automatically protect a vulnerable edge or delicate surface.
Our void fill and protective packaging range includes loose fill chips, honeycomb paper systems and edge protectors. Compare loose fill by its supplied volume and the amount needed per parcel. For honeycomb paper, check the dispensing format and whether the quoted roll length is measured before or after expansion.
Consider where the product needs support and whether the material will stay in position during handling. A trial pack is useful when changing the outer carton, protective material or number of items sent together.
Stretch Wrap, Pallet Wrap & Hand Dispensers
Stretch wrap film is used to wrap grouped goods and help hold pallet loads together. Smaller rolls can also suit bundling tasks. Select the film around the load shape, its edges and the method used to apply it.
Compare roll width, length, film thickness and core arrangement. Check whether the film is intended for hand or machine application, and confirm compatibility with your equipment. A film's performance depends on its specification and application, so thickness alone is not a complete comparison.
Browse stretch wrap dispensers for compatible hand wrapping options. Check what is included in the pack and the refill dimensions before selecting a dispenser and spare rolls.
Grip-Seal Bags, Carrier Bags & Packing Accessories
Minigrip and grip-seal bags help keep small parts, fixings and accessories together. Allow for the depth of the contents as well as their length and width, and check the usable space beneath the closure.
For counter sales and collection orders, compare carrier bags and paper bags by dimensions, construction and pack quantity. Select a bag intended for the weight and type of goods being handed over.
String and cotton twine provide options for tying and bundling. For goods entering a parcel network, choose an outer pack and closure appropriate to that delivery method.
Buying Packaging Materials in Bulk & Reducing Waste
Start a bulk order with a list of your most common parcel sizes and the materials used for each. This helps online retailers, school purchasing teams and business dispatch departments compare repeat requirements consistently.
- Boxes and bags: compare the price per usable item and the quantity supplied.
- Paper and bubble wrap: compare width, length and material specification together.
- Loose fill: check volume and estimate consumption per packed order.
- Reserve stock: allow storage space for the packs and rolls you intend to buy.
Selected products contain recycled material. Check the stated content and disposal guidance for each item. Trialling a closer-fitting carton can also reduce unnecessary filler, provided the contents still have the protection they need.

Packaging Materials & Cardboard Box FAQs
What packaging materials should a business keep in stock?
Base your stock on the orders you send regularly. A typical selection includes suitable boxes, protective wrapping, gap filling material and a way to seal the package. Businesses sending rolled prints, loose components or pallet loads may also need postal tubes, grip-seal bags or stretch film.
Do I need single wall or double wall cardboard boxes?
Single wall cartons can suit lighter contents; double wall cartons add a second corrugated layer for more demanding applications. Match the actual box specification to the packed weight and handling conditions. Neither description gives every box in that category the same load capacity.
Are cardboard box measurements internal or external?
This depends on the product listing, so check the specification. Internal measurements tell you how much space is available for the contents and cushioning. External measurements describe the finished outer size and matter when checking carrier limits or fitting boxes into storage.
Is a bubble bag the same as a padded mailing envelope?
A bubble bag is generally a protective inner sleeve used around an item inside another package. A padded mailing envelope is designed as an outer postal pack with a closure and an addressable surface. Check the product's intended use before treating a bubble sleeve as ready-to-post packaging.
What is the difference between cushioning and void fill?
Cushioning protects an item from impacts, while void fill takes up spare space to help prevent movement within the box. One material may perform both functions, depending on how it is used. Fragile or mixed-item orders often need protection around each item as well as filled gaps.
Is stretch wrap the same as shrink wrap?
No. Stretch wrap is stretched around goods during application and holds them through the film's tension. Shrink wrap is a different film designed to contract when heated. Confirm which material your packing process or equipment requires before buying replacement rolls.
How can I compare the value of different packaging rolls?
Compare the same material and grade, then check width, length and rolls per pack. For example, a 500mm-wide roll that is 100m long contains 50 square metres of material. A 1,000mm-wide roll that is 50m long contains the same area, but its wider format may suit different items.
Can I order cardboard boxes and packing materials in bulk?
Yes. Many products are supplied in packs or bundles, and selected lines have multibuy prices. For a larger order, send AOS the product references, required quantities and delivery location for a quotation. Confirm the number of individual boxes, bags or rolls included in each pack.
