The best starting point is the equipment you have, the people using it and the time available for replenishment.
Bulk toilet rolls: which format do you need?
A case of conventional toilet rolls and a case of system refills can contain very different amounts of paper. Check sheets or metres per roll, total rolls per case and dispenser fit.
For busy facilities, compare usable capacity and refill access. For visitor washrooms, also consider softness, presentation and the experience you want to provide.

| Format | Where it can fit your needs | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Conventional rolls | Familiar small-roll format for suitable holders and smaller facilities. | Roll width and diameter; sheets per roll; ply and case quantity. |
| Jumbo & mini jumbo | Larger-roll formats for dedicated dispensers where refill capacity matters. | Maximum roll diameter, core opening, roll width and the exact dispenser model. |
| Coreless, compact & system rolls | Specified paper for matching systems, including coreless and controlled-dispensing options. | Named compatible refills. Similar-looking rolls may use different mechanisms. |
| Folded toilet tissue | Sheet-format toilet paper for a suitable folded-tissue dispenser. | Folded dimensions and dispenser specification. This is a different product from hand towels. |
Paper hand towels: folded towels or rolls?
Folded towels and dispenser rolls suit different equipment. Choose the format first, then compare absorbency, sheet size, ply and how easily people can take what they need.
Single-sheet dispensing can help control consumption when the refill and dispenser work together. Check performance in your own washroom before making a large change.

| Format | How it differs | Your buying check |
|---|---|---|
| C-fold | Individually folded towels stacked in a suitable dispenser. | Folded size, dispensing opening and towels per pack. |
| V-fold, Z-fold & multifold | Interfolded formats designed to present the next towel in matching dispensers. Fold terminology varies between ranges. | Exact fold, folded dimensions and the dispenser's compatible refill list. |
| Hand towel rolls | Paper supplied on a roll for a compatible manual or automatic roll-towel dispenser. | Roll width, diameter, core and system requirements; usable metres per roll. |
| Continuous towel systems | Purpose-designed towel bundles, such as Tork PeakServe, for their own dispensing systems. | Correct system code and refill article. These are separate from ordinary rolls and folded packs. |
Hand soap, refills and washroom dispensers
Choose a formulation and dispensing method that work together, then plan how you will replenish them.
Foam or liquid soap?
Compare feel, fragrance, formulation and the dose used per wash. Foam and liquid soaps need a suitable dispenser or pump; do not assume they are interchangeable.
Sealed cartridges
Match the cartridge and nozzle to the named dispenser. Keep the article code with your replenishment list so repeat orders are easy to identify.
Pump bottles & bulk soap
Choose standalone bottles or bulk refill formats where appropriate. Follow the dispenser's cleaning and refilling instructions; check suitability before switching formulations.
Hand sanitiser
Sanitiser is a separate product category with its own usage instructions. Check both the formulation and any cartridge-system requirements.
Shop dispensers by what they dispense
Look at refill availability as well as the dispenser price. Check capacity, wall or counter space, access for refilling and any batteries, keys or mounting components required.
Which refill fits my washroom dispenser?
Match the dispenser model first. Brand, colour or pack size alone is not enough. Look for a model label inside or underneath the dispenser, or use the code from a refill that already works.
For toilet & towel rolls
- Exact dispenser model or system code.
- Overall diameter and roll width.
- Core opening, or the specified coreless format.
- Required paper and dispensing mechanism.
For folded paper
- Folded width and depth.
- Fold pattern and dispensing opening.
- Dispenser's listed compatible refills.
- Correct product: hand towel or toilet tissue.
For soap cartridges
- Cartridge family and article code.
- Nozzle and connection type.
- Soap or sanitiser formulation.
- Compatible dispenser model and capacity.
Diagrams show the checks to make; they are not drawings of a particular product.
Send the dispenser model, existing refill code and a description of what you need. If a code is unclear, contact us about sharing photographs before you place a bulk order.
Compare the cost of use, not just the case price
A cheaper case can contain less paper. A larger pack can take more storage space. Compare quantity, performance and consumption together.
Case price ÷ total sheets in the case × 1,000.
Case price ÷ total metres in the case × 100. Compare width and ply too.
Refill price ÷ expected handwashes. Use the specified dose and allow for the number of pushes.

Include the practical costs
Consider how much people use, paper left on an emptying roll, waste, time spent refilling and any cost of changing dispensers. Trial a suitable alternative before replacing supplies across a whole site.
Buy quantities you can use and store
Compare smaller cases with bulk and selected multibuy options. Keep paper dry and protected, rotate stock, and check shelf life and storage instructions for soap and cleaning products.
Plan around the people using your facilities
Use your busiest periods, cleaning rounds and storage space to guide the specification.
Offices & shared workplaces
Allow for variable attendance, visitors and busy meeting days. Keep staff and visitor washrooms consistent and straightforward to refill.
Schools & colleges
Plan for concentrated use around breaks and lunch. Consider dispenser access, age groups, ease of use and your site's purchasing requirements.
Hospitality & customer facilities
Balance visitor comfort and presentation with capacity during peak service. Coordinate paper, soap and routine cleaning supplies.
Facilities teams & contractors
Record the systems installed at each location. Keep different refill types clearly identified when buying for several buildings or clients.
Make repeat ordering easier to manage
A clear replenishment list helps you order the right products and spot changes in usage.
Record each washroom's supplies
List the location, dispenser model, refill code, pack quantity and person responsible for checking stock.

Commercial washroom supplies: buying questions
Practical answers to help you choose and order with confidence.
What washroom supplies does a business need?
A typical purchasing list includes toilet paper, suitable hand soap, a hand-drying provision, compatible dispensers, cleaning products and bin liners. Base your list on the equipment installed, expected use and your site's cleaning arrangements. Start with the product categories above and add items around your facilities.
Can I buy washroom supplies in bulk?
Yes. AOS offers commercial packs across the range and multibuy prices on selected lines. Compare the actual pack quantity and unit price on each product page. For regular volumes or orders across several locations, ask for a business quotation.
Are jumbo and mini jumbo toilet rolls interchangeable?
Do not assume they are. The roll needs to match the dispenser's diameter limit, width, core and mechanism. Check the exact model and the specified compatible refill. The words “jumbo” or “mini jumbo” alone do not confirm a fit.
Will C-fold, Z-fold or multifold towels fit the same dispenser?
Sometimes a dispenser accepts more than one format, but this must be confirmed in its specification. Folded dimensions and the dispensing opening matter as well as the fold name. An interfolded towel also needs the correct arrangement to present the next sheet properly. Use our hand towel buying information to compare formats.
Is two-ply paper always better value than one-ply?
No. Ply describes the number of layers, not the total value. Compare sheet size, strength, absorbency, softness and how many sheets people use, alongside the price. A suitable trial gives a more useful comparison than ply alone.
Can I switch supplier without changing my dispensers?
Often you can continue using the same system by buying the correct named refills from another supplier. Share the dispenser and refill codes with AOS. If you want an alternative product, confirm compatibility before ordering; changing to a different dispensing system may require new equipment.
Are branded refills worth paying more for?
A specified refill can make compatibility easier to check and may offer the performance you prefer. A suitable value option may also meet your needs. Compare fit, performance, consumption and cost per use; neither a brand name nor a lower case price proves the better choice for every site.
How much spare washroom stock should we hold?
Start with your measured usage and current delivery lead time. Hold enough to cover that period, plus a reserve for demand variation and disruption that is appropriate to your workplace. Account for storage capacity and product shelf life. There is no single correct stock level for every business.
Can AOS help with purchasing for several sites?
Contact us with your locations, regular products and quantities. We can discuss a quotation and the account facilities available for your requirements. Confirm delivery arrangements and any purchasing controls before setting up your process.
Can paper hand towels go in the toilet or ordinary paper recycling?
Standard hand towels should go in an appropriate bin. Do not treat them as toilet tissue. Check the exact product and your site's wastewater guidance for any specific exception, and ask your waste contractor about disposal or a dedicated collection service. Used towels should not automatically be placed in ordinary mixed-paper recycling.
How quickly can my supplies be delivered?
Check the live stock status and delivery information for your chosen products and postcode. Backorders and special-order products can have different timings. For a planned replenishment order, discuss the required date with AOS before purchasing.
