DYMO LabelWriter Labels & Label Tapes

Buy DYMO LabelWriter labels for addresses, parcels, barcodes, files and name badges. Compare sizes and packs, check machine compatibility, or find D1, LetraTag and Rhino tapes.

Start with the printer model, then choose the label size and material. The DYMO name alone does not make every refill interchangeable.

Buying for a LabelWriter 550, 550 Turbo or 5XL? Choose genuine DYMO LW labels suitable for the 5-series. These machines use Automatic Label Recognition; third-party rolls are not supported. Older genuine stock also needs checking: DYMO specifies labels manufactured after April 2020.

Shop DYMO LabelWriter labels

Print individual labels or batches without ink or toner. Compare address and shipping formats, then find smaller labels, filing and name badges below.

The featured products are genuine DYMO. Category listings may also include compatible alternatives; select Brand: Dymo when you want original refills. Check the live product page for availability, pack contents and current pricing.

DYMO LabelWriter value packs

Save money on everyday labelling with DYMO LabelWriter value packs. Buying labels and tapes in multipacks can reduce the cost per label or metre, while keeping your postroom, dispatch team or shared office stocked up and reducing how often you need to reorder.

Order the same refill code for repeat jobs, reduce how often you reorder, and choose a quantity you can use and store correctly. For 550-series printers, the genuine-label compatibility requirements still apply.

Printing courier labels? Check the template your shipping platform supplies before ordering. DYMO’s 104 × 159mm XL format is commonly described as a 4 × 6-inch shipping label, but use its actual dimensions in the software. A 54 × 101mm label is not an equivalent replacement. For a different large format, see 102 × 210mm DHL shipping labels and confirm the printer and template requirements.

Which DYMO labels fit my machine?

Read the full model name on the machine or its identification label. Then match the refill family, supported width and exact label reference.

DYMO machine-to-refill compatibility
Machine or range Refill to choose What to check before buying
Dymo LabelWriter 550 / 550 Turbo Genuine DYMO LW labels 5-series-compatible rolls with Automatic Label Recognition. No 104 × 159mm XL labels.
Dymo LabelWriter 5XL Genuine DYMO LW labels Supports suitable standard and XL rolls. Use 5-series-compatible genuine labels.
Dymo LabelWriter 450 / 450 Turbo / Twin Turbo Supported LabelWriter rolls Match the exact reference and dimensions. These are not wide 4 × 6-inch label printers.
Dymo LabelWriter 4XL Supported standard and XL rolls Check the label reference and your shipping template. Do not assume a third-party 4XL roll will work in a 5XL.
Dymo LabelWriter 450 Duo LW rolls + D1 tape Two separate printing sections: LW rolls for paper labels; D1 cassettes for tape labels up to 24mm.
Dymo LabelManager 160 / 210D / 280 D1 tapes: 6, 9 or 12mm Choose D1 cassettes. 19mm and 24mm tapes are too wide for these models.
Dymo LabelManager 360D / 420P D1 tapes: 6, 9, 12 or 19mm 19mm maximum; do not order 24mm tape.
Dymo LabelManager Executive 640 CB D1 tapes: 6, 9, 12, 19 or 24mm Check the material and colour as well as width. Listed on AOS as Executive 640B.
Dymo LetraTag 100H / LT-100H / 200B 12mm LetraTag LT tapes LetraTag cassettes are different from 12mm D1 tapes.
Dymo Rhino 5200 Compatible Rhino IND tapes Supported widths up to 19mm; check the material and cartridge reference.
Dymo Rhino 6000+ Compatible Rhino IND tapes Supported industrial labels up to 24mm; material and format availability vary.

Will my old 450 labels work in a 550? Some current genuine DYMO references fit both, but “for LabelWriter 450” alone is not proof of 550 compatibility. Check for 5-series support and the genuine-label production requirement. Width, roll format and label recognition all matter.

For a model not listed here, check DYMO’s official compatibility charts or ask AOS to help identify the refill using your model and label code.

Genuine DYMO vs compatible labels: why choose originals?

Original DYMO refills give you a printer-matched product, clear material specifications and an identifiable code for repeat orders.

01

Designed for DYMO printing

Genuine LabelWriter labels are tested with DYMO printers and use a coating designed for direct thermal printing. Choose the approved reference for your model, rather than relying on a broad “DYMO compatible” claim.

02

Automatic setup & roll count

Compatible genuine LW rolls let the 550, 550 Turbo and 5XL identify label size, type and remaining quantity. Check the loaded roll before a batch and see when more labels are needed. These models require genuine supported rolls.

03

The right adhesive & material

DYMO provides product-specific specifications for its D1, LetraTag and Rhino refills. Choose paper, plastic or specialist materials for the job, then reorder the same code to keep your labelling specification consistent.

Material credentials: DYMO states that its paper labels use FSC-certified material and its D1 external cassette housings use 100% recycled material. This does not mean every label or complete cassette is recyclable.

Are compatible labels worth considering? They can cost less for machines that accept them, including suitable older LabelWriter models. Quality, adhesive and fit vary by product and supplier. A 450-compatible roll is not automatically suitable for a 550 or 5XL.

Compare the cost per usable label: match dimensions, material, adhesive and total quantity, then consider time spent checking fit and print quality. Originals offer a known DYMO specification; they are not a promise that paper labels will survive every surface or environment.

Shop DYMO label tapes

Choose your tape family: D1, LetraTag and Rhino use different refill systems.

DYMO D1 label tapes: choose the right width

For LabelManager machines and the tape section of the LabelWriter Duo. Use D1 for organised filing, storage, shelf edges and equipment identification. Choose text colour, tape background and material as well as width.

Choose the D1 material for the task
D1 material Choose it for Buying route
Standard D1 Clean, flat surfaces such as files, storage boxes and office equipment. Compare 12mm colours & packs
D1 Durable Applications needing a tougher adhesive label. Check the product’s surface and exposure specifications. 12mm durable black on white
Flexible nylon Wrapping around suitable cables and curved surfaces; choose a width that fits the machine. 12mm nylon · 19mm nylon
Permanent polyester Permanent identification on suitable flat surfaces. 12mm polyester · 19mm polyester

Buying regularly? Compare single 12mm black-on-white cassettes, 10-cassette packs and 20-cassette packs. Always check the length and material before comparing prices.

DYMO LetraTag label tapes

LetraTag uses its own 12mm LT cassette. Choose paper for everyday indoor identification or plastic for a more resilient everyday label. These tapes do not fit LabelManager D1 machines.

Useful for drawers, stationery and shared cupboards. Ordinary paper tape is not a waterproof or outdoor label.

DYMO Rhino industrial tapes & heat-shrink labels

For cable identification, electrical installations, maintenance and facilities teams. Start with the surface and environment, then check the Rhino model, cartridge and width.

AOS lists Rhino vinyl, nylon, polyester and heat-shrink products in the Rhino label tapes category. Material-specific resistance and application limits differ: check the individual specification for water, chemicals, temperature and outdoor use. A cassette’s width is not the same measurement as a cable’s diameter.

Rhino 5200: up to 19mm supported labels. Rhino 6000+: up to 24mm supported labels. Do not substitute a LetraTag, Brother or XTL cartridge because its stated width looks similar.

DYMO LabelWriter user guide: load, print and solve problems

Start here, then use your model’s manual for cleaning and jam removal.

How to load Dymo LabelWriter labels

  1. Fit the roll to the spool with the labels feeding from underneath.
  2. Slide the spool guide against the roll so there is no gap.
  3. Position the spool and feed the label along the left edge of the slot.
  4. Adjust the side guide without pinching the label. Feed to a complete label and close the lid.

Before your first print

  1. Use DYMO’s software download page to select the version for your printer and operating system.
  2. Select the correct printer and label layout; check dimensions and orientation.
  3. Preview the address, barcode or design and print one test label.
  4. Check readability and fit before printing the full batch.
Quick LabelWriter troubleshooting
What you see What to check first
“Unknown label” / labels not recognised On 550 / 550 Turbo / 5XL, confirm a genuine, supported 5-series LW roll. Check its seating and try a fresh supported roll.
Blank or very faint labels Check roll orientation and try fresh labels. If quality remains poor, follow the model’s cleaning instructions.
Skipped labels or poor alignment Check the spool has no side gap, the guide is aligned and the selected layout matches the roll.
Printer missing or nothing prints Check power, the connection and correct printer selection. Get the current model-specific software from DYMO.
Labels fade or lift after application Check storage, exposure and surface suitability. Standard thermal paper is not the right answer for every outdoor, wet or permanent identification task.

Store spare rolls carefully. Keep thermal labels cool and dry in their original protective packaging, away from direct sunlight and heat. Order a practical replenishment quantity rather than more than you expect to use.

How to replace a DYMO tape cassette

Switch the label maker off and open the cassette cover. Remove the old cassette, fit the correct replacement into its guides, and close the cover. Follow the model’s instructions for any ribbon slack and width settings. Print a test label before cutting. Peel the backing, apply to a clean, dry, suitable surface and press firmly.

DYMO labels: your questions answered

Practical answers before you buy.

Do DYMO LabelWriter 550 printers need special labels?

Yes. The 550 and 550 Turbo use genuine DYMO LW labels with 5-series recognition support. The 5XL has the same genuine-label requirement. DYMO specifies compatible labels manufactured after April 2020; check old stock before using it.

Can the LabelWriter 550 print 4 × 6-inch shipping labels?

No. Use a suitable wide-format model such as a LabelWriter 5XL or 4XL. Match the actual label dimensions and shipping template; the standard 550 and 550 Turbo cannot take the 104 × 159mm XL rolls.

Are DYMO labels waterproof?

It depends on the product. Standard paper LabelWriter labels are not a universal waterproof solution. For tougher conditions, look at the relevant durable label or industrial tape specification and confirm both machine compatibility and resistance to the actual exposure.

Can I print barcodes and QR codes on DYMO labels?

With a supported printer and suitable software, you can create machine-readable labels. Choose a size that leaves enough space around the code and test it with the scanner or phone used in your workflow before printing a batch.

Do I need ink, toner or replacement ribbons?

LabelWriter prints by direct thermal technology, so it needs no ink, toner or ribbon. D1 and Rhino tapes use a different printing system, with the printing material supplied in the cassette; buy the complete correct cassette.

Should I buy single rolls or bulk packs?

Choose according to usage, storage and budget. Compare the same label size, material and total quantity. AOS offers smaller packs and bulk choices across key LabelWriter formats, with current prices and any multibuy options on the product pages.
