Staple Size Guide

Working out what staples fit your stapler is not the easiest thing in the world. It is important to make sure that you use the correct staples with your stapler. Most jams are caused by either using the incorrect staples, or by trying to staple too much.

Most staples have two reference numbers that are normally standard throughout the brands. The first digits, i.e. 24/## or 26/## indicate the gauge of the wire, the thickness. The second number reflects the length of the staple leg, or shank,  and is measured in millimetres. However, this isn't always the case. As with everything in life, there are exceptions to the rules.

Some staplers, especially the heavy duty models, can take several different staples. This is because the stapler can take staples with various shank lengths for stapling larger capacities of paper.

The most popular staple for office staplers is the 26/6. A standard 6mm staple. Most manufacturers produce a 26/6 staple and as long as your stapler says it uses 26/6 staples, you can usually use any brand version.
